Former Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Jimmy Smith, honorary starter for Thursday's Brumos Porsche 250 sports car event, took a lap as a passenger around Daytona International Speedway's road course on Tuesday in the No. 10 SunTrust Racing Pontiac Riley with two-time Rolex 24 champion Wayne Taylor.
Smith, a five-time Pro Bowl selection, retired from football following last season after 13 seasons in the NFL. He'll wave the green flag for Thursday's 71 lap, 250-mile sports car race on the 3.56-mile road course at 7 p.m.
The 37-year-old receiver led the Jags with 70 catches for 1,023 yards and six touchdowns last season. He ranks seventh in NFL history with 862 receptions and 11th in receiving yards. He has more receptions than every receiver in the Hall of Fame.
