Ormond Beach resident Valerie Bourbour, selected as the 2007 honorary "Mayor of Speedweeks" in a contest held by Daytona International Speedway and Black Crow Broadcasting, kicked off Speedweeks 2007 from Pit Road Thursday morning.
With a thunderous, "Gentlemen Start Your Engines," Bourbour, along with several area mayors, green-flagged the start of the Rolex 24 At Daytona Weekend. The weekend culminates with the 45th anniversary of the Rolex 24 At Daytona at historic Daytona International Speedway on Jan. 27-28.
The winner pointed out in her application that "once, just once, I'd love to be the vibrant mayor that brings in the week of an event that I truly enjoy "Speedweeks 2007" at Daytona International Speedway."
As honorary Mayor, Bourbour will receive two tickets to all Speedweeks races and be part of the Daytona 500 Gatorade Victory Lane celebration. She will also receive two credentials/access to pre-race & NEXTEL FANZONE on Sunday, Feb. 18, 2007, have his photo taken with area mayors, participate in Speedweeks 2007 Opening Ceremonies at Rolex 24 practice, receive two tickets to DAYTONA USA; wave the flag at Rolex practice session to officially get Speedweeks underway; attend the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Driver's Meeting; receive Party Zone access during the NASCAR Busch Series event and be part of the Gatorade Victory Lane celebration at the Daytona 500.
