DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Dec. 30, 2008) – Daytona KartWeek By Cometic Gasket wrapped up on Tuesday afternoon at Daytona International Speedway.
For the past three days, “The World Center of Racing” has been transformed into a big playground with hundreds of karters from the World Karting Association battling for victories on two different courses.
The Margay Sprint Championships were contested on a half-mile course located in the infield of Turns 3 and 4 while the Dunlop Road Racing Series karters battled on the 3.56-mile road course.
And for the second straight year, the event had star power with NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver and 2007 Coke Zero 400 Powered By Coca-Cola champion Jamie McMurray competing. McMurray made his first trip to DIS as a kid competing in the karting events.
Daytona International Speedway won’t be quiet for very long. The final test session in advance of the 47th anniversary of the Rolex 24 At Daytona is scheduled for this weekend – Jan. 3-5 – with more than 45 sports cars expected to be in attendance.
