DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Jan. 22, 2009) – The wait is over and DIRECTV Speedweeks is finally underway.
Palm Coast resident Keith Quint, who was selected as the 2009 honorary “Mayor of DIRECTV Speedweeks” in a contest held by Daytona International Speedway and Black Crow Broadcasting (WVYB, 103.3 FM; WHOG, 95.7; 93.1 KRO Country), kicked off activities by waving the green flag to kick off Rolex 24 practice on pit road Thursday morning.
With a thunderous, "Rolex Series Drivers Start Your Engines," Quint green-flagged the start of the Rolex 24 At Daytona Weekend. The weekend culminates with the 47th anniversary of the Rolex 24 At Daytona at historic Daytona International Speedway on Jan. 24-25.
“I didn’t have any words,” Quint said describing his reaction to winning the contest. “I was speechless. The most exciting thing is getting to see my son be involved in something he will probably never get to do again. To get to experience this with my son means everything to me.”
As the Mayor of DIRECTV Speedweeks, Quint will receive two tickets to all DIRECTV Speedweeks races and will be part of the historic 51st running of the Daytona 500 Gatorade Victory Lane celebration.
Other Mayor of Speedweeks perks for Quint include Party Zone access during the Camping World 300 NASCAR Nationwide Series race, access to pre-race and the Sprint FANZONE for the Daytona 500, two tickets to the Daytona 500 Experience motorsports attraction and the opportunity to attend the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Driver’s Meeting.
Race fans can purchase their tickets for the 47th anniversary of the Rolex 24 At Daytona on Jan. 24-25 online at www.racetickets.com or by calling 1-800-PITSHOP.
