DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Daytona KartWeek By Cometic Gasket wrapped up on Wednesday at Daytona International Speedway.
The annual holiday event at the “World Center of Racing” showcased hundreds of karters from the World Karting Association on three courses – the 3.56-mile Daytona road course, the .700-mile Sprint track in Turns 3 and 4 and the newly constructed quarter-mile dirt track outside Turns 1 and 2.
The event produced some popular racing names – NASCAR stars Jamie McMurray and AJ Allmendinger, IZOD IndyCar Series star and Indianapolis 500 champion Dan Wheldon and motorcycle legend and five-time Daytona 200 By Honda champion Scott Russell.
Daytona KartWeek By Cometic Gasket also produced the first laps on Daytona’s new dirt track with the World Karting Association’s Briggs & Stratton Dirt Speedway Series.
The quarter-mile lime rock track is located in the West Lot outside Turns 1 and 2 and will also be utilized for the AMA Pro Racing Flat Track motorcycle races in early March.
