Week 15 Daytona Repave Update: Turns 1, 2 Being Prepped For Paving
Crews remove the dirt behind the wall in Turn 4.
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Lane Construction is prepping the steep 31-degree high banks in Turns 1 and 2 for paving as the Daytona Repave project completed a 15th week work.
The grading of the lime rock base in Turns 1 and 2 has been ongoing for the past week. Grading of the top pass has been completed and the primer has been placed while grading of the bottom pass continues.
Once the primer has been placed on both passes, the massive Titan 525 paver will begin putting down the first of four layers of asphalt.
Other updates from the 15th week of work on repaving Daytona International Speedway include:
• Paving of the backstretch skid pad is complete with exception of the tie-in with the apron
• Installation of the under-drain system is now complete with exception of Turns 1 and 2 where paving still remains
• Crews have begun preparing to put SAFER barrier and safety fence back up in Turns 3 and 4
• Removal of the fill dirt behind the walls in Turns 3 and 4 has begun
