Nearly 500 Units of Blood Generated In Ninth Annual 9-11 ‘Drive To Donate’ Blood Drive

Blood Drive

Daytona International Speedway and OneBlood brought the Central Florida community together to save lives Saturday, Sept. 13 at the “World Center of Racing” by generating 485 units of blood in the ninth annual 9-11 “Drive to Donate.” For OneBlood, the 9-11 “Drive to Donate” was the single largest one-day blood drive they have hosted this year.

Within just a couple of days, the blood donations from last Saturday’s 9-11 “Drive to Donate” were processed, tested and dispatched to hospitals and will help more than 1,400 patients. In the United States, an individual needs a life-saving blood transfusion every two seconds.

The blood drive, which took place in the historic Speedway infield at the Daytona 500 Club, also received promotional support from Orlando NBC television affiliate WESH Ch. 2. In addition, each guest who donated received a free Daytona International Speedway tour admission ticket and a free commemorative T-shirt.
