2017 Scout Days saw the infield of Daytona International Speedway transform once again into a truly unique camping retreat.
Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts from all over traveled to the “World Center of Racing” to camp and participate in a weekend filled with exciting programming during the Roar Before the Rolex 24 as teams and drivers from the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship and the IMSA Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge as they prepare for the 2017 season.
Scout Days Open Garage
Throughout Saturday, Scouts enjoyed over three hours of access to the IMSA WeatherTech Championship Series garage as they observed the hard-working race teams and their high-performance vehicles preparing to practice for the upcoming Rolex 24 At DAYTONA.
Women in Sports Car Racing Q&A Session
For the very first time, DAYTONA brought together women from the IMSA WeatherTech Championship Series for a special fan forum. The group included mechanic Jess Mace of the the No. 67 Chip Ganassi Racing Ford GT and Shea Adam from IMSA Radio, along with drivers Christina Nielsen and Katherine Legge.
Scout Days Movie Night
New for 2017, Scouts attended a special Saturday night movie with an exclusive showing of the 2006 Disney movie Cars on the Main Stage in UNOH Fanzone. Scouts enjoyed snacks and drinks while watching Lightning McQueen capture race glory.
Fishing on Lake Lloyd
The 29-acre Lake Lloyd in DAYTONA’s infield provided the perfect setting as scouts baited hooks and casted their lines out all weekend in the always-popular catch and release program.
Scout Days Tram Track/Stadium Tour
Throughout the weekend, scouts climbed aboard open-air trams and were given a tour of the infield and an inside look at the world’s only motorsports stadium from one of DAYTONA’s expert tourologists.
IMSA Tech Inspection 101
In the WeatherTech garage inspection station inside UNOH Fanzone, IMSA Technical Director Scott Raymond walked scouts through the highly detailed process every car must go through to meet the exact specifications IMSA requires to be race ready.
IMSA Safety Team demonstration
Members from the IMSA safety team answered questions and provided information on how they get cars prepared to handle safety and what they do in the case of on-track emergencies.
