David Pearson
Statement from Daytona International Speedway President Chip Wile on the Passing of the NASCAR Hall of Fame Inductee and 1976 DAYTONA 500 Champion David Pearson.

“The legends of NASCAR Hall of Fame member David Pearson and Daytona International Speedway will forever be linked. David’s 1976 DAYTONA 500 win, when he emerged from a last lap, last turn accident with Richard Petty to take the checkered flag, is arguably the greatest finish in 500 history. David also won our annual summertime Cup race a record five times. We are proud to know that in many ways, his history is our history.

“On behalf of everyone at Daytona International Speedway, I want to offer condolences to David’s family and friends. He will forever be missed.”
