511 provides time-saving traffic information for fans traveling to the Daytona International Speedway

The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) offers advice to fans navigating Florida roadways on the way to the Daytona 500 – call 511, Florida’s free traffic information system. Information available through the 511 system includes travel delays, traffic crashes, roadway blockages and lane closures. By dialing 511, fans can stay informed on the roadways, plan alternate routes and stay safe.

Drivers can dial 511 to access real-time road conditions for all interstate highways and many metropolitan roadways including Interstate 4 and Interstate 95. As long as a caller is within Florida, the 511 system can be reached on any cell phone or landline, regardless of area code or service provider. Once in the Daytona area, callers can get detailed regional information on roads leading to the stadium, such as I-4 and I-95.

Before heading out, users can visit www.FL511.com for 511 tips and incident reports, and to register for My Florida 511 customized routes. When a phone number is registered, the 511 system recognizes the user and provides the option to hear traffic details for the programmed trips first.

Safety Tips

1. Call 511 before you hit the road, at a rest area or have a passenger call to avoid talking while driving.
2. Call 511 before you enter a new roadway to become aware of the current road condition.
3. Customize your trip before you leave home at www.FL511.com to minimize time spent on the phone.
4. In low visibility, drive slowly and keep your lights on.
5. If your windshield wipers are on, your headlights should be on, too.
6. Always wear your seat belt.
7. Don’t drink and drive!
