“The final launch of the Space Shuttle program is a historic moment.  We’re proud to pay tribute to NASA’s Space Shuttle program and welcome Astronaut Dominic “Tony” Antonelli as Honorary Starter,” Daytona International Speedway President Joie Chitwood III said. “Having piloted the Space Shuttle twice, Tony will surely appreciate the thrill of speed from the flag stand as 43 stars of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series roar past him to start the Coke Zero 400 Powered By Coca-Cola.”

As Honorary Starter, Antonelli will be introduced at the driver’s meeting, participate in the driver introductions and wave the green flag for the Coke Zero 400 Powered By Coca-Cola.  Antonelli will also make appearances in the Coke Zero Club and 31 Degrees hospitality venues prior to the start of the race.

NASCAR and ISC visit Governor Scott

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – A full contingent of NASCAR officials, drivers and racing legends, as well as International Speedway Corporation representatives, joined Florida Governor Rick Scott at the Florida Governor’s Mansion in Tallahassee, Fla., last night to celebrate NASCAR’s historical significance in Florida and its economic benefit to the state.

The list of attendees included NASCAR Chairman & CEO Brian France, International Speedway Corporation CEO Lesa France Kennedy, NASCAR President Mike Helton and fellow Florida residents and NASCAR drivers Juan Pablo Montoya, Brian Vickers, Joe Nemechek and Ricky Carmichael.  In addition, Joey Logano, 2011 Daytona 500 winner Trevor Bayne, and NASCAR legends and broadcasters Darrell Waltrip and Rusty Wallace participated in the event.

Governor Rick Scott, who saw first-hand the impact of NASCAR racing when he attended the 2011 Daytona 500, stated, “NASCAR is a family, a group of people who really believe in our state and add a lot of economic value to our state. They [also] do a lot of nice things for our state with NASCAR Unites. It's a real honor that the state workers contributed 19,480 hours to this great cause.”

Daytona International Speedway President Joie Chitwood III, also in attendance, commented on the impact of NASCAR racing to the state, “NASCAR is a big part of this state. Every year it has a major impact on Florida with their races here.  These two properties (Daytona and Homestead-Miami Speedway) generate more economic impact probably than all of the sports properties in Florida combined, and it's nice to know that the governor appreciates that and he knows that racing is a huge component of the economic engine of Florida.  Daytona International Speedway hosts the largest sporting event in the state of Florida every single year so we've got NASCAR's biggest and best event.  Then, of course, [Homestead-Miami Speedway President] Matt Becherer and Homestead-Miami Speedway gets to end it with the championship.  Florida gets the best of both worlds.”

Jimbo Fisher, head football coach for the Florida State Seminoles, will serve as Grand Marshal for the 53rd annual Coke Zero 400 Powered By Coca-Cola NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race on Saturday night, July 2.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Jimbo Fisher, head football coach for the Florida State Seminoles, will serve as Grand Marshal for the 53rd annual Coke Zero 400 Powered By Coca-Cola NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race on Saturday night, July 2.

Fisher will give the starting command, “Gentlemen start your engines,” in Saturday’s 160-lap, 400-mile race. He’ll also be introduced at the driver’s meeting, participate in the driver introductions and ride in one of the Grand Marshal cars during the pace laps prior to the green flag.

Fisher just completed his first season as head coach at Florida State with a 10-4 record. Fisher led the Seminoles to their first 10-win season since 2003, a victory over in-state rival Florida, an appearance in the Atlantic Coast Conference championship game and a victory in the Chick-Fil-A Bowl in Atlanta.
Between 2007-09, Fisher served as offensive coordinator and quarterback coach for the Seminoles. Prior to joining Florida State, Fisher served as offensive coordinator at Louisiana State between 2000-06 and helped lead the Tigers to the National Championship in 2003. Fisher has also served as an assistant at Samford, Auburn and Cincinnati.

The Coke Zero brand selected Coach Fisher for this honor, as Florida State will be one of many prominent schools featured in the brand’s fall program around college football rivalries.

“I’m extremely honored and excited,” Fisher said. “I’ve been a huge NASCAR fan my entire life. Being able to go to Daytona, where it all started in racing, is a very special privilege and something I’m really looking forward to. I consider this a great honor and I want to thank Coca-Cola for allowing me to represent Florida State.”

Daytona International Speedway President Joie Chitwood III, a graduate of the University of Florida, politely declined comment.

Danica Patrick and Tony Eury Jr.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- Last year’s Subway Jalapeno 250 Powered By Coca-Cola produced two unforgettable moments in the history of Daytona International Speedway – the debut of the new NASCAR Nationwide Series car and the victory of Dale Earnhardt Jr. in the legendary blue and yellow No. 3 Wrangler Chevrolet made famous by his father Dale Earnhardt.

This Friday night’s 100-lap, 250-mile race for the NASCAR Nationwide Series at the “World Center of Racing” once again features plenty of intriguing story lines that will capture racing headlines as well as the attention of the thousands of race fans in attendance.

-- The Subway Jalapeno 250 Powered By Coca-Cola will be the first race of the year for the four-race “Dash 4 Cash” bonus program. Introduced in 2009 by Nationwide Insurance and NASCAR, “Dash 4 Cash,” rewards the highest-finishing eligible driver a $100,000 bonus in addition to the race purse.

The top four drivers in the series points standings heading into Daytona are eligible – points leader Reed Sorenson (Turner Motorsports), Elliott Sadler (Kevin Harvick Inc.), Ricky Stenhouse Jr. (Roush Fenway) and Justin Allgaier (Turner Motorsports).

-- Danica Patrick, who for the second straight year is running a part-time NASCAR Nationwide Series schedule, will make her first summer visit to Daytona International Speedway. The open-wheel star will be behind the wheel of the No. 7 GoDaddy.com Chevrolet for JR Motorsports.

Patrick has three previous stock car starts at Daytona. In the February NASCAR Nationwide Series season openers, Patrick finished 35th in 2010 and 14th in 2011, having led a lap in that exciting race.  In her stock car debut in the 2010 Lucas Oil Slick Mist 200 ARCA event, she finished sixth.

-- Ricky Carmichael, the 15-time AMA Pro Racing Supercross champion and a winner of a record five Daytona Supercross By Honda events, will make his first NASCAR Nationwide Series start on the high banks driving for Turner Motorsports. In three NASCAR Camping World Truck Series starts at Daytona, Carmichael, known in the motorcycle world as the G.O.A.T., or Greatest Of All-Time, has finished 24th, 29th and eighth earlier this year.

-- A strong field of NASCAR Sprint Cup Series competitors will be in the Subway Jalapeno 250 Powered By Coca-Cola field including Tony Stewart, Kevin Harvick, Carl Edwards, Brad Keselowski, Clint Bowyer, Kyle Busch and 2011 Daytona 500 champion Trevor Bayne.

-- Friday night’s 100-lap, 250-mile race for the NASCAR Nationwide Series is the 10th running of the summer race at the “World Center of Racing.”  Prior to 2002, the NASCAR Nationwide Series only made one stop at Daytona International Speedway during Speedweeks in February
