DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Three-time Daytona 500 champion Bobby Allison will serve as Grand Marshal for the Subway Firecracker 250 Powered By Coca-Cola NASCAR Nationwide Series race on Friday night, July 5 at Daytona International Speedway.

Allison will give the starting command to the 40-car field that will do battle in the 100-lap, 250-mile race.

Allison, a NASCAR Hall of Famer, is one of the most successful drivers in Daytona history. In addition to his three victories in “The Great American Race,” Allison won the July NASCAR Sprint Cup Series summer race another three times.

Overall, Allison has 16 career victories at Daytona, which puts him third on the all-time list.

The July NASCAR Nationwide Series event at Daytona is bearing a legendary name in 2013 – the Subway Firecracker 250 Powered By Coca-Cola.

The origin of the name “Firecracker” dates back to the first year of operation of Daytona International Speedway in 1959. The inaugural NASCAR summer race was run as the Firecracker 250. The summer NASCAR Sprint Cup Series event at DIS included “Firecracker” in the event from 1959 through 1988.

The Subway Firecracker 250 Powered By Coca-Cola is also the first “Dash 4 Cash” race, which is bonus program where the top four drivers to receive NASCAR Nationwide Series driver championship points are eligible for a $100,000 bonus.

Kurt Busch is the defending champion of the Subway Firecracker 250 Powered By Coca-Cola. Other previous race winners include Dale Earnhardt Jr., Kyle Busch, Clint Bowyer, Denny Hamlin, Martin Truex Jr., Joey Logano and inaugural winner Joe Nemechek.

Adam Sandler, Kevin James and Shaquille O’Neal, the stars of the upcoming comedy “Grown Ups 2,” in theaters July 12, will serve as Grand Marshals for the 55th annual Coke Zero 400 Powered By Coca-Cola NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race on Saturday, July 6 at Daytona International Speedway.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Adam Sandler, Kevin James and Shaquille O’Neal, the stars of the upcoming comedy “Grown Ups 2,” in theaters July 12, will serve as Grand Marshals for the 55th annual Coke Zero 400 Powered By Coca-Cola NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race on Saturday, July 6 at Daytona International Speedway.

Sandler, James and O’Neal will give the starting command – “Drivers, start your engines” – in the Independence Day holiday classic. They will also be introduced at the driver’s meeting, participate in pre-race ceremonies, and ride in the Grand Marshal cars during the pace laps prior to the green flag of the 160-lap, 400-mile race.

“We’re pleased to welcome three of the stars of ‘Grown Ups 2’ and have them take part in the pre-race ceremonies for one of NASCAR’s most exciting nighttime races,” Daytona International Speedway President Joie Chitwood III said. “Combining Adam Sandler, Kevin James and Shaquille O’Neal, we’re expecting a boisterous and powerful starting command in front of thousands of race fans and millions more watching on TNT.”

This marks the fourth time that Sandler has served as Grand Marshal for a NASCAR event, having previously served at Talladega once and Michigan twice.  This will also mark Kevin James’ return to Daytona and his third time as NASCAR Grand Marshal; James also previously paced the Toyota All Star showdown and did a few test laps at Texas Motor Speedway.  In addition, the film’s producer, Jack Giarraputo, is chairman of the board of Fuel, a NASCAR management company.

In “Grown Ups 2,” the all-star comedy cast from “Grown Ups” returns (with some exciting new additions) for more summertime laughs. After moving his family back to his hometown to be with his friends and their kids, Lenny (Adam Sandler) finds out that between old bullies, new bullies, schizo bus drivers, drunk cops on skis, and 400 costumed party crashers, sometimes crazy follows you. “Grown Ups 2” will hit theaters on July 12, 2013.  “Grown Ups 2” is directed by Dennis Dugan, produced by Adam Sandler and Jack Giarraputo, and written by Fred Wolf & Adam Sandler & Tim Herlihy.

Sandler, who is a producer on “Grown Ups 2,” has starred in such hit films as “Happy Gilmore,” “The Waterboy” and “The Wedding Singer” while James’ credits include the CBS sitcom “The King of Queens” and hit films “Zookeeper” and “Paul Blart: Mall Cop.”

O’Neal retired from NBA in 2011 after having captured four NBA championships during his 19-year professional career. He was also named NBA Finals MVP three times, was a 15-time NBA All-Star and earned an Olympic Gold Medal.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Daytona International Speedway and Richard Childress Racing, one of the most successful organizations to compete at the “World Center of Racing,” have partnered to have a special presence at the Goodwood Festival of Speed on July 11-14 in England.

The Goodwood Festival of Speed is the world’s biggest and most diverse celebration of the history of motorsport and is held on the grounds of the Goodwood House, West Sussex, England.

Richard Childress Racing will have a pair of race cars that will drive in the annual Hillclimb event on the Goodwood grounds – a No. 3 GM Goodwrench Chevrolet that was raced in the 2000 NASCAR season by the late Dale Earnhardt and a No. 3 Bass Pro Shops 2013 Chevrolet Camaro SS, a car that was driven by Austin Dillon in the NASCAR Nationwide Series.

Kerry Earnhardt, the oldest son of the late Dale Earnhardt, will drive the famed No. 3 GM Goodwrench Chevrolet while Daytona International Speedway President Joie Chitwood III will be behind the wheel of the No. 3 Bass Pro Shops Chevrolet Camaro SS.

“We are honored that Lord March has once again invited Richard Childress Racing to participate at his Goodwood Festival of Speed,” said Childress, who won two Daytona 500s as an owner with Dale Earnhardt (1998) and Kevin Harvick (2007). “This will be our fourth appearance at one of the most prestigious motorsports events in the world and we are so proud to be a small part of it.

“We are very excited to be bringing two race cars this year - a 2013 Austin Dillon No. 3 NASCAR Nationwide Series Chevrolet Camaro and one of our historical seven-time NASCAR champion Dale Earnhardt No. 3 GM Goodwrench Monte Carlos from one of his last victories.”

At the age of 5, Chitwood began his career as a stuntman as part of his family’s entertainment business, the well-known Chitwood Thrill Show, and later specialized in precision driving.

“My dad, Joie Chitwood Jr., had the distinction of racing against Richard Childress back in the 1960s so it’s great to come full circle and drive one of his cars at Goodwood,” Joie Chitwood III said. “It’s a privilege to be behind the wheel of the No. 3 Chevrolet Camaro SS and to be a part of this diverse celebration of motorsports.”

Daytona International Speedway will also be represented at the Goodwood Festival of Speed by Sir Malcolm Campbell’s Bluebird V, which has left its home inside the Daytona International Speedway Ticket and Tours Building to be part of a land speed record display.

Jun 18 | International Speedway Corporation Board of Directors Approves Comprehensive Plan to Redevelop Daytona International Speedway Frontstretch

International Speedway Corporation today approved funding to redevelop the frontstretch of Daytona International Speedway, the Company’s 54-year-old flagship motorsports facility, to enhance the overall experience for its fans, marketing partners and the motorsports industry.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – International Speedway Corporation today approved funding to redevelop the frontstretch of Daytona International Speedway, the Company’s 54-year-old flagship motorsports facility, to enhance the overall experience for its fans, marketing partners and the motorsports industry.  This historic, multi-year project will break ground on July 5, 2013, and is targeted for completion in January 2016, in time for the 54th Rolex 24 At Daytona and the 58th DAYTONA 500.

“We are truly creating history with this unprecedented endeavor,” said ISC’s Chief Executive Officer Lesa France Kennedy.  “I commend the board’s decision to move forward on our plan to redevelop the Company’s signature motorsports facility, thereby shaping the vision of Daytona for the next 50 years.

“The decision was made with strong consideration of the current macroeconomic condition and a clear view for our long-term growth,” Ms. France Kennedy continued. “This significant private investment is a strategic use of our capital that will ensure the long-term viability of the iconic speedway, and when completed, will contribute favorably to the Company's revenues, as well as to our community and the sport as a whole.”

The redevelopment is expected to cost between $375 million to $400 million.

The vision for the redevelopment of the Daytona International Speedway frontstretch places an emphasis on enhancing the complete fan experience, beginning with five expanded and redesigned fan entrances, or injectors, along International Speedway Boulevard.  Each injector would lead directly to a series of escalators and elevators that would transport fans to any of three different concourse levels, each featuring spacious and strategically-placed social "neighborhoods" along the nearly mile-long frontstretch.

A total of 11 neighborhoods, each measuring the size of a football field, will enable fans to meet and socialize during events without ever missing any on-track action, thanks to an open-sightline design throughout each concourse and dozens of added video screens in every neighborhood. The central neighborhood, dubbed the "World Center of Racing," would celebrate the history of Daytona International Speedway and its many unforgettable moments throughout more than 50 years of racing.

Every seat in the Speedway frontstretch will be replaced with wider and more comfortable seating, with more restrooms and concession stands throughout the facility.  At the conclusion of the redevelopment, Daytona International Speedway will be comprised of approximately 101,000 permanent seats with the potential to increase permanent seating to 125,000.

There will be no capacity changes for the 2014 DAYTONA 500.  The eventual decrease in capacity could occur in stages following the 2014 DAYTONA 500 and will include the complete removal of the backstretch grandstand by the start of the 2016 motorsports season.  By moving all seating to the frontstretch, all attendees will have the opportunity to enjoy a full race day experience including pre-race ceremonies, pit road action and the facility’s new amenities.  “We will take great care of our loyal existing customers throughout this renovation,” said John Saunders, President of ISC.  “They can expect to receive additional direct communication as we proceed with construction.”

The redevelopment will also provide an expansive platform for ISC’s corporate marketing partners.  Hospitality is elevated with a completely revamped design that will exceed partners’ expectations for a more intimate, affordable and effective experience.  The new frontstretch will include 53 suites that will offer superb views of the track.

Construction for the redevelopment project will begin after the 2013 Coke Zero 400 NASCAR weekend.  As a result, the redevelopment will impact certain ancillary events at the Speedway through 2014.  However, major races such as those associated with Budweiser Speedweeks, the Daytona Supercross By Honda, the Daytona 200 and the Coke Zero 400 Powered By Coca-Cola, will be held as scheduled.  Additional information on events beyond 2014 will be provided upon completion of the full construction schedule.

“The redevelopment of Daytona International Speedway reaffirms its status as the ‘World Center of Racing’ for years to come,” said Ms. France Kennedy.  “It is imperative that we build upon my grandfather’s vision to create a world-class facility with premium amenities to provide unparalleled experiences for our guests and partners.  Doing so will ensure that the DAYTONA 500 and all our other events continue to drive our business while serving as a significant economic engine for the region.”

Daytona International Speedway is the home of "The Great American Race" - the DAYTONA 500. Though the season-opening NASCAR Sprint Cup Series event garners most of the attention - as well as the largest audience in motorsports - the approximately 500-acre motorsports complex boasts the most diverse schedule of events on the globe, thus earning it the title of the "World Center of Racing." In addition to eight major weekends of racing activity, rarely a week goes by that the Speedway grounds are not used for events that include civic and social gatherings, car shows, photo and film shoots, car club events, production vehicle testing and more.
