Chevy Silverado 250 Craftsman Truck Series Qualifying Quotes
MIKE SKINNER, No. 5 Toyota Tundra Toyota “That’s what it ran earlier today, so that’s what we expected. The truck is really, really good in the draft. I’m pretty excited about tomorrow. I’ve got a good piece. Man, when the Craftsman Truck Series runs at Daytona, all you have to do is rewind the tape. It’s always awesome here. It seems to have a reputation for good finishes and a lot of excitement. I hope if we’re in the excitement, it’s right at the end of the race.” RON HORNADAY, No. 33 Camping World Chevrolet “Qualifying don’t mean nothing here. It’s how good the truck drives and how good it sucks up. We’re looking forward to the race. We’ve got a good starting spot and we’ll do whatever we’ve got to do to go out and have fun.” JUSTIN MARKS, No. 9 Construct Corps Toyota “It felt good out there. We’re trying to set it up so it’s a little tight, because it seems to loosen up during the race. I’m happy with the way it drove in the draft today, so we’re looking forward to tomorrow. Running the ARCA 200 helped because it got a race underneath my belt and helped knock the rust off, but there’s not much similar between the ARCA car and the truck. I’ve think we’ve got a good race truck and a great teammate in Todd Bodine to work with. We plan to run a conservative race and see where we’re at with 10-15 laps to go.” TERRY COOK, No. 60 Wyler.com Toyota “I don’t think it will stand up for the pole. It was a good effort. We backed up what we did earlier today and we came back faster than we tested. I know what we had and we backed it up. Tomorrow, I think we’re going to see another great race. The trucks are a handful out there. It’s back to the same old truck race, where we saw three wide for the checkered flag. I really think we’re going to see that again this year. I feel great. This is the most pumped up I’ve ever been at the start of a season. Toyota and everyone behind our program have given me all the resources it’s going to take to win the championship. So far, we’re getting it started pretty good.” COLIN BRAUN, No. 6 Con-way Freight Ford “After that accident we had here in testing, I felt real bad for our guys. But they’ve worked their butts off, and we’ve got a great truck for the race. Mike Beam, my crew chief worked hard on getting the Con-way Freight Ford F-150 to be strong in the race. Qualifying was kind of a throw-away, and we’re pleased with what we did with what we had. Certainly, I’m looking forward to getting out and seeing how it works in the draft. I think it will be real good. We did a lot of testing and a lot of practicing in the draft, and I feel confident for the race.” TODD BODINE, No. 30 Lumber Liquidators Toyota “We knew it wouldn’t qualify well, but it’s going to race like heck, though. We’ll be right in the front. I’m pretty confident.” SCOTT LAGASSE JR., No. 20 Ford “We came here with a lot of downforce on our truck, and you pay a penalty when you put a lot of drag on it and you run by yourself. There’s a method to our madness. We’re sticking to our guns and our plan on how it will race. It drafted real well last night, so I’m pretty excited about it.” ERIK DARNELL, No. 99 Northern Tool+Equipment Ford “It was a pretty good lap for us. I knew through practice and testing that we had a pretty good truck. I was hoping it would hold up for the pole. If not, I wasn’t too worried, because we’ve got a really good truck in the draft. Hopefully, we can keep our Northern Tool+Equipment Ford up front and pick up the win Friday night. It will be an exciting race – have you seen the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series races at Daytona before? I don’t think anybody’s going to break away. It’s going to be typical Truck racing. These things punch such a big hole in the air it’s hard to get away from a guy. You can be 15-20 truck lengths behind, and you can get a good run and catch up to him pretty quick. I think you’re going to see a pretty tight pack, a lot of passing, a pretty exciting race.” STACY COMPTON, No. 4 Potamkin-Rivera Dodge “I’m pretty happy with it. I’m proud of what these guys have done in the last few weeks to put all this together. We’ve got a good race truck. I think we’ll be fine.” (Four marques in the top five?) NASCAR’s got to be happy with that, with all the different brands in the top five. It shows parity. I think it’s a good thing. We’ll see how it works out tomorrow evening. Hopefully, you’ll see a Dodge in front.” RICK CRAWFORD, No. 14 Power Stroke Diesel by International Ford “I hope I can be the first two-time NASCAR Truck Series winner at Daytona tomorrow night. Our F-150 is going to be making some bold moves tomorrow night. It’s driving great and I’m having fun. I’m glad to be back at Daytona. It was a pleasure seeing all the media taking our sport – Bill France’s dream – to the public at the media day last week. No doubt, it’s going to be an exciting race. I hope I’m in it, and if I’m not winning, I hope I’m pushing my teammate, Brendan Gaughan. He’s pretty excited about the 10 Truck. He’s an exciting driver to watch and he knows how to superspeedway race. In 2003, he helped me to win it here. If I can help him win, I will. If not, I hope the 14 truck is in Victory Lane.” TED MUSGRAVE, No. 59 Team ASE/Harris Trucking Toyota “I qualified a little better than I thought. I brought a race truck, not a qualifying truck. I’m pretty happy with it. I hope we have a good race. It’s a new team for me, and we’re hoping to have a good run.” ANDY LALLY, No. 7 Line-X Chevrolet “We’re 15th, and I’m cool with that. We’ve got a good pace. It’s all about having this truck race-ready, and then it’s all about surviving this race. If we get to racing there at the end, that would be wonderful. Daytona has a history of exciting truck races, and I’ve watched them all. These guys go crazy at the end of these races. If we can bring it home in one piece, I think we’ll have a decent finish and a decent head start to the season. Racing NASCAR at Daytona is one of the coolest things I’ve ever done in my life. I’m looking forward tomorrow to participating in probably the craziest race I’ve ever participated in in my life. I’ve been fortunate to do a whole lot of racing, and this is certainly one of the most awesome things I’ve ever been part of.” JACK SPRAGUE, No. 2 American Commercial Lines Chevrolet “These trucks have gotten a little harder to drive in the draft. Our truck was pretty good today in drafting practice – a lot better than it was yesterday. I never dreamed I’d qualify that well, so my hat’s off to everyone at KHI. I’m looking forward to tomorrow night. I think experience in saving it when it’s sideways is going to be real big tomorrow night. It’s going to be a little bit more of a handful than it’s been in the past.” SCOTT LYNCH, No. 29 Jasper Engines Dodge “We were hoping to get in the top 10, but 13th is good for a small-budget team. It rode real well, I’m surprised we weren’t a little bit faster. I think we’ll have something for them tomorrow night.”
