Gatorade Duel at Daytona - Race 2 Quotes

Denny Hamlin, No. 11 FedEx Toyota Camry (Finish 1st)
"This was a great effort by the team. That's what it's all about. The team did a great job preparing this car for me. It feels great to get into Victory Lane at Daytona, and to get Toyota its first Cup win is special."

Can you talk about the pass you made on Tony (Stewart) to win the race? "We knew it was going to take one of us to pass the other for either one of us to win this race. We knew the 24 (Jeff Gordon), 8 (Mark Martin) and 9 (Kasey Kahne) were planning something behind us. I did my best block the 24 on the outside. Luckily, he gave me a break and didn't push the issue. He could've caused a wreck. Thanks to Jeff (Gordon) for that. When he did, he gave me the push to get around Tony (Stewart). Luckily, Tony got cleared enough to give us the push at the end."

Tony Stewart, No. 20 Home Depot Toyota Camry (Finish 2nd)
"I'm happy, but obviously if the caution hadn't come out then we think the outcome might have been different. The important thing was to keep Joe Gibbs Racing one-two no matter what the order was. That's what I told Denny (Hamlin) during that red flag period -- that one of the two of us has to win this race, if he had a run then he had to go. I told him not to try to help me and put himself in a bad spot. He got a run that he couldn't stop and if he would have tried to go with me, then we both probably would have ended up fourth and fifth. I thought he did a great job and I'm really happy with our guys. We just kind of took it easy at the beginning and after the midway caution, we just went ahead and tried to work our way forward and got there. Handling is at an all-time premium this year so everybody is going to take what they learned today and try to make their cars better for Sunday."

Kasey Kahne, No. 9 Budweiser Dodge Charger (Finish 4th)
"The car felt great. I was going with (Jeff) Gordon regardless. I thought maybe we could hook up and go good together. I got behind him and was pushing him real good, we were pushing (Denny) Hamlin and got by (Tony) Stewart and then Tony came right back. The Gibbs guys are really good. Stewart is tough. He went with his teammate and we ended up fourth. I was happy with the whole race, the pit stops, our tires stayed on the car and our fuel mileage was great. We had a lot of power in our Dodge Charger. I thought it was the best car Gillett Evernham has ever brought to the track compared to the field. It was a good team effort. Hopefully, this will give us a top-10 starting spot, not that really matters, but I've never started in the top 10 here. The car handled great. It was a little on the loose side, but handled really well and went around the corners fast. We need just a little more to run in the top 10 on Sunday."

Ken Schrader, No. 49 HealthLife.com Dodge Charger (Finish 18th)
"We didn't have enough speed. That was the problem."

John Andretti, No. 34 Makoto Chevrolet (Finished 10th)

"I don't know what to say. I didn't expect to be here. I think the team has done a great job. I mean, in the race, there were some guys that really did treat me fair. One of them is sitting to my right (David Reutimann.) Tony helped me at the beginning. It looked like he was hanging on at the beginning. I was driving my guts out. He was taking it easy, keeping up.

"But, anyway, it was a good race. The last lap for me was everything. I wasn't in the race till I came off turn four. I guess that's all that matters. I'm really proud of this race team. Really happy to see and want to congratulate Dale Jarrett making the race. What an awesome thing to make the 50th running with him because he's such a great champion. Probably more excited about him making the race, probably not more, but equally excited about him making the race as me.

"I don't know what to say. Kind of wore out just talking, not used to people coming up. I even have a little sign here with my name on it. So it's been a good day (smiling)."
