Lesa France Kennedy Raises Scholarship Funds for B-CU Students
ISC President Lesa France Kennedy and Daytona Beach Mayor Glenn Ritchey teamed up recently to host “Dancing for Scholarships”. Funds raised from this unique night of fun and frivolity were all part of a fundraising effort lead by Lesa France Kennedy. Ms. Kennedy is the 2008 Chairperson for the Bethune-Cookman University/United Negro College Fund Joint Campaign. “Dancing for Scholarships” attracted a distinguished panel of celebrity judges from the Volusia County area that included; Joie Alexander, Betty Jane France, Cassandra Reynolds, Connie Ritchey, Michelle Carter-Scott, Edgar Scott, Jeffrey Swendsen and Alvin Wyatt, Sr. The winning couple of this genuinely competitive competition was Bob and Bobbi Coleman. The Coleman’s rehearsed for several weeks leading up to the event as did fellow competitors; Molly & Tim Hudson, Teresa Bird & Bruce Kuehn, Muriel Green & Frank Leister, Sonja & Harold Lucas, Barbara & Bob Paranzino and Kelly & Jack White. Dr. Trudie Kibbe Reed and Lesa France Kennedy each took a moment under the spotlight and performed for the audience by dancing with Broadway performer Lawrence Hamilton. Mayor Glenn Ritchey closed the evening by saying, “we need to have more events such as this one where we come together as a community and just have fun”. Broadway favorite, Mr. Harry Burney sang and served as Master of Ceremonies.
