Members of 10 private Corvette Clubs will have the unique opportunity of participating in the driver introductions during DIRECTV Speedweeks 2009 races at Daytona International Speedway.

DAYTONA BEACH , Fla.(Feb. 10, 2009) – Members of 10 private Corvette Clubs will have the unique opportunity of participating in the driver introductions during DIRECTV Speedweeks 2009 races at Daytona International Speedway.

Members of seven Corvette Clubs from the Central Florida area and clubs from Ohio, Maryland, and Georgia will participate in the driver’s introductions during DIRECTV Speedweeks events in their Corvette convertibles.

Arne Ellgard, the President of the Ponce Inlet Corvette Club, was initially contacted about providing Corvettes to “The World Center of Racing” during DIRECTV Speedweeks 2009.

“Everybody in the club is very enthusiastic about it,” Ellgard said. “I didn’t have to mention it a second time.”

Ellgard, who helped organize and recruit the Corvettes, said that the interest from Corvette Clubs was “tremendous.”

The 10 Corvette Clubs will provide between 28 and 46 Corvette convertibles for each event with 24 coming from the Ponce Inlet Corvette Club.

The corvettes will parade the race car drivers once around the historic 2.5-mile Daytona International Speedway tri-oval after their introductions. The pre-race ceremonies that the Club Corvettes will be participating in are:

·         Saturday, Feb.7 – Lucas Oil Slick Mist 200 and Budweiser Shootout

·         Thursday, Feb. 12 –Gatorade Duel At Daytona

·         Friday, Feb. 13 –NextEra Energy Resources 250

·         Saturday, Feb. 14 –Camping World 300

·         Sunday, Feb. 15 – 51st annual Daytona 500
